About the consultation
Consultation on the draft National Gene Drive Policy Guide was open from 4 January 2024 to 3 March 2024 and 16 submissions were received. Once all submissions have been considered, the feedback will help inform any improvements before being considered by gene technology ministers.
The guide has been developed to help stakeholders understand:
- the regulation of gene drive organisms
- what to consider before applying for gene drive technology research or environmental release.
Thank you to all stakeholders who provided their views on the draft policy guide.
National Gene Drive Policy Guide
On 19 December 2025 the Gene Technology Ministers’ Meeting agreed to the publication of the National Gene Drive Policy Guide.
